Psychedelic-Space-Jazz: die drei ersten Alben des Kollektivs aus Ohio.
Gegründet 1972, veröffentlichten The Pyramids nur drei Alben, bevor sie sich 1977 auflösten: "Lalibela" (1973), "King Of Kings" (1974) und "Birth/Speed/Merging" (1976). Drei Platten, die allerdings ausreichten, um der Band einen bis heute nachhallenden Ruf einzubringen. Von allen Spiritual-Jazz-Kollektiven wie etwa dem Art Ensemble Of Chicago oder Sun Ras Arkestra waren The Pyramids das mysteriöseste. "Wir waren unserer Zeit weit voraus", sagt Idris Ackamoor, Multiinstrumentalist und Komponist der Band aus Ohio, USA, "darum entschieden wir, dass die Zeit das mal aufholen muss." Nach einer Reunion 2007 erschien vier Jahre später das Album "Otherworldly", kurz zuvor war die Band sogar in Deutschland und Europa auf Tour - "Wow, what a show they put on!", schwärmte etwa Gilles Peterson. Höchste Zeit also, die ersten drei Alben dieser außergewöhnlichen Truppe wieder zu veröffentlichen: "They Play to Make Music Fire!" vereint sie in einer Drei-CD-Box.
